Sugar Plum Life Blog
In this day and age, many individuals are contributing towards creating societal change by being increasingly mindful of what they purchase and consume. It is common routine to scan labels of food products to avoid chemicals that can be harmful to health, choose organic options over pesticide-treated produce, and browse for cruelty-free options when shopping. Another rising movement in the buying and selling industry is the purchasing of Fair Trade goods. Curious about how Sugar Plum is involved in Fair Trade purchasing? Not sure what Fair Trade is? All of the above is covered in this edition of Sugar Plum’s blog! We invite you to read on, as we delve into the topic of the Fair Trade movement and what it means to us as a company.Read More
if you’ve read our Yelp and Google Reviews: Sugar Plum’s biggest fans are always exclaiming how much they love us, and our services! If you haven’t already, look us up on Yelp and read what our visitors have to say. We hear all the time how little their Brazilian’s hurt when their go-to technician uses sugar plum fairy magic to make unwanted hairs disappear with a *poof*. We get loads of compliments on our fair pricing, and generous maintenance discounts. And we know how much people adore our organic & fair trade sugar paste!
There’s also another wonderful, yet rather quiet aspect to Sugar Plum as a company that sets us so far apart from other salons. One of Sugar Plum’s mission statements is being a low waste producing company, with a goal to eventually reach zero waste. And let’s face it, no other salons are really doing that!
If you’ve come in for a service with us, you’ll notice how our sugaring technicians only use green gloves. Those green gloves aren’t just any old disposable gloves, they are made of biodegradable materials that actually will break down. Latex gloves (the most commonly used disposable gloves) on the other hand, don’t biodegrade and further contribute to the current massive global waste problem. And the same goes for the trash bags we use to contain waste from sugaring services, instead of plastic trash bags we use Bio-Bags. Like the gloves, they are both green in color, and green in purpose! While both bags and gloves after being disposed may end up in a landfill, they will deteriorate and break down; so these babies won’t be sticking around for eons. In the vein of using products that are environmentally conscious; Sugar Plum also uses reusable cotton linens, towels, and puffs; after use they are popped into the washing machine and thoroughly washed, sanitized and disinfected.
To be quite frank, it’s highly uncommon for salons to have such a green outlook and mindset. Sugar Plum is truly the leader of providing organic and fair trade sugaring services at a premier price while also demonstrating it’s possible to be mindful to the care of our planet as well. And as the Sugaring Experts, we strive to make a difference with the services we provide with our zero-waste goal. And, to influence others to engage in the quest to bring beauty to others without affecting the beauty of the earth.
