What is sugaring to you? Just your routine hair removal? Or is it more than that? At Sugar Plum, we know that sugaring is a lot more than simply being hair free.
Sugaring has personal care benefits too! If you have received a sugaring service before, you may already know that sugaring is a super effective exfoliant. As your hair is flicked away, so are dead skin cells. This leaves behind smooth, baby soft skin. If you are receiving regular sugaring, consider this. Once a month you come in for hair removal and your skin gets that fresh glow again.
If you want ways to keep up your smooth skin between sugaring appointments, we have a few recommendations. First, try our Agave Fiber Body Mitt or something similar. The body mitt is more effective than a loofah at scrubbing away dirt and smoothing out any roughness on your skin. As it is weaved from 100% agave fibers, it is all natural, biodegradable, and can be left wet in the shower without getting mildewy. There are two pockets in it, so you can insert your favorite bar of soap in a separate section than your hand and scrub-a-dub-dub!
Our second skincare recommendation is for soothing skin irritation. If you notice red bumps on your skin, we recommend a treatment of oatmeal paste. There are pre-made versions that you can purchase in drugstores or grocery stores, which you should use as directed on the packaging. For a do-it-yourself method, what we like is crushing up oats and mixing that with water to make a paste. Apply this to the irritated area. Let that sink into your skin like a mask. When it dries, rinse the paste away. Additionally, if you have a bathtub, add oatmeal to your bath water for an at home spa experience. Keep in mind that oatmeal bits can clog your tub, so plan accordingly by using a tea infuser, filter bag, or a strainer over the drain. To enhance the mood with some aromatherapy, include lavender buds too! The restorative and relaxing properties of lavender will wash your cares away.
Thirdly, pay attention to your body. If you notice red bumps or ingrowns, be your own skincare sleuth. Do you notice fabric from your clothes rubbing against your skin uncomfortably? That could be the culprit! Try wearing a breathable material or a fit of clothing that matches your angles and curves. See if there is an improvement. Always be open to adjustments, and talk to your sugarist if you want suggestions. Many of us have gone through these struggles ourselves and we are trained to support your beauty care needs.
For best hair removal results, bathe before your service, so your skin is free of any contaminants that could sneak into your newly hair free pores. For 24 hours, do your best to stay away from activities that cause friction or sweat to your skin. This can result in needing that oatmeal bath we discussed earlier, and healing can take up to four days. We know it can be hard to resist a regular workout routine or other vigorous activities. The wisest choice is to wait a day before you play. The day after your service, follow the aftercare guidelines by showering and gently exfoliating the area that was sugared. This will assist the skin’s natural restorative processes.
If you have any questions about how to make your skincare routine more beneficial to you, most of our sugaring technicians can get pretty nerdy about the topic, so do not hesitate to ask. We are here for you!
Happy hair removal, Sugar Plums!
